The Center for International Development and Cooperation of Estonia (ESTDEV) and JAMnews have recognized the outstanding journalistic contributions of three authors in the “Shuki” prize competition.

And the winners are:

  • Nastasia Arabuli, from Radio “Tavisupleba,” presented “I will not be a victim to other girls,” where five women bravely disclose incidents of sexual abuse within the metropolitan’s office. The article sheds light on the prevalent issue of sexual harassment by high-ranking officials, with Metropolitan Nikoloz Pachuashvili of the Akhalkalaki and Kumurdo eparchy being publicly accused of sexual misconduct.
  • Nuka Stepnadze, “Southern Crossroads” – Why is Vardzia not visible in the UNESCO Heritage List and what threats illegal constructions pose; Stepnadze’s article offers insights into the challenges faced by the General Development Plan for Vardzia and highlights the risks associated with unauthorized constructions within the monument area.
  • Ia Asatiani, iFact.ge – “Auto Trade of Russians” – the route of sanctioned cars from Georgia to Russia. Asatiani’s exposé uncovers the intricate schemes facilitating the supply of sanctioned cars from Georgia to the Russian market. Despite the Georgian government’s claims of banning the export of sanctioned cars to Russia, Asatiani’s investigation reveals the continued operation of these schemes, maintaining the flow of cars from Europe through Georgia.

The overarching goal of this project is to foster ethical and responsible journalism practices in Georgia, promoting transparency and accountability in media reporting.
